Workshop on management and of children with special needs

A workshop on management and intervention of children with special needs was organized in S.D Public school Pitampura from 1st to 5th January 2012. it was conducted in collaboration with International and Psychology (IAHP) in the support of SHIKHAR-A Center for Educational and Psychological Development. Mr. Anil Kumar and Ms.Tannu Sangwan (both are Educational and Rehabilitation Psychologist cum special Educator) coordinated this workshop under the planned guidance of Ms. Anita Sharma, Principal, S.D Public School, Pitampura, Delhi.

The aim of this five day workshop was to help to resolve plethora of challenges faced by professionals or parents. This was a skill training workshop based on the assessment, intervention and management programme for children with special needs Ms. Shalu Yadav, Counselor, S.D Public School, addressed the participants and laid emphasis to give support to the needy students.

Dr.Naveen Grover Asst. Professor/ Clinical Psychologist IHBAS, Delhi inaugurated the workshop and spoke on the need and advantages of this type of workshop in present scenario workshop was attended and appreciated by environment educationist Dr. V.P shrivastava retd head of dept. (math) D.U. and his wife.

Anil Kumar shared the objective experience of the workshop to the participants. The first session was related to introduction about children with special needs Mr. Kumar discussed the characteristics and symptoms of students who are having various problem like learning disability, learning difficulties, slow learner, hyperactivity, memory etc. Main focus was an assessment and diagnostic tools for intelligence and academic performance. A practical exposure was given using Phychological and educational tools to the participants. Ms. Tannu Sangwan focused on comprehensive discussion on management band intervention techniques like cognition, brain gym, memory enhancement, intervention techniques for dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia (Learning Disability). Principal Ms.Anita Sharma announced about UTASAH - a unit for educational and Psychological development for children with special needs which is an innovative concept in North Delhi on school level where other students from different schools can register. Based on a unique pattern from assessment to intervention this unit will work with multidisciplinary team like Psychologist, counselor, special educators and other paramedical professionals as per the need of the student.
